Objetivos:

TERR@ALVA project considers natural resources/conditions, cultural (i)material heritage and socioeconomic activities (viticultural zoning) may contributes to sustainable regional strategy and methods that can be applied to other world/national viticultural regions

Objective 1 analyse terroir effect characterizing Alvarinho wines produced in Sub-Region Monção and Melgaço (SRMM) and in other sub-regions of Vinhos Verdes Region (Basto, Lima, Cávado) and other national regions (Alentejo, Dão e Trás-os-Montes) other regions – DIFFERENTIATION factors

Objective 2 develop a Georeferencing tool, based in Geographic Information System (GIS)- WEBGIS applied to SRMM Terroir.

Atividades:

Determination of Agro-ecological conditions and natural suitability zoning at regional scale; Alvarinho vineyard suitability zoning at local scale, in Sub-Region Monção and Melgaço (SRMM), including, analysis of occupation and Land Use Climate, Physiography, Geology; Lithology and Soils; Hydrography and Hydrology; Monitoring Phenology/vegetation indexes and cultural practices in the vineyards.

Determination of must microbiome: Identification of autochthonous yeast strains with sampling for each region for the isolation and identification of autochthonous yeast strains; Construction of DNA libraries compatible with high-throughput sequencing; Sequencing and generation of taxonomic data and analysis.

Chemical and sensory characterization of Alvarinho wines produced in different regions and relation with agro-ecological conditions; Multivariate analysis in order to identify the parameters of typicality of Alvarinho wine that may contribute to the terroir definition.

 

Resultados esperados:

TERR@ALVA aims to CONTRIBUTE to:

define and develop new methods and tools of viticultural terroir definition (based in OIV);
establish directly innovation bases in the origin detection tools and guarantee of wines authenticity;
contributes to the definition of public policies and implementation of governance system of viticultural areas;
support Alvarinho wine marketing strategies and commercial proposals as well as, development of operational decision support system related to Precision Agriculture/Viticulture

The results aim develops greater local thematic knowledge, develop stakeholders/ research/student capacity building in production processes, promote wine and oenotourism products, contributing to land/rural development/sustainability as well as, promote individual vitivinicultural projects and conservation of cultural/biological resources/heritage.
