Accommodation, especially in summer, can be rather difficult due to the many tourists visiting Viana. Nevertheless, the Polytechnic has two Student Hall in Viana (one in the town centre and a second next to the School of Education ) and another one in Ponte de Lima (Refóios) next to the School of Agriculture. Normally, the Polytechnic tries to place the Erasmus students in its Halls of Residence. Whenever this is not possible, the Polytechnic will make every effort to arrange suitable accommodation, preferably with other students doing the same course. Compared to other European Countries, the price of accommodation and food is fairly low. Lunch can be had in the Student Canteen or in the bars of the Schools and Halls for about 1.9€. In the town itself there are many restaurants and cafes offering everything from “prego” (a steak sandwich) to 3 course meals at a reasonable cost.
